THE FIVE ALIVE! The best of the best compact cameras of 2010

The year is almost coming to an end, as a matter of fact we just have 17 days to the end of the year, our expectation and desires to see new innovations and surprises from  camera manufacturers are so great and have so be clouded us so much that we are forgetting the many innovations and great ingenuity that we have enjoyed this year 2010. Manufacturers have tried to be more innovative this year,  Fujifilm  for example, is still continuing their push of the EXR sensor strengths and Pentax has not given up on delivering an off the beat design.

Many compact cameras have faired well this year, however, some have faired excellently well basically due to their image quality, durability and portabilty.

CAMERAS IN 2010-LET DOWN OR A THUMB UP?

The year 2010 has been a very good year for cameras, however, some people will agree that in terms of expectations and innovations,it has been a disappointing year.

What would you say to the holding back of Nikon D700 replacement or to Canon 60D not meeting the expectations and yearnings of numerous customer. Canon 60D was indeed a disappointment in-spite of its good quality as a video camera. Samsung NX10,NX100 and Sony NEX cameras were not too interesting. The sony NEx promised so much with the APS-C sensor and the ability to change lenses. In theory, it could have given the Micro Four-Thirds cameras a swift kick in the sensor; Sony ended up giving themselves a bit of a kick in the sensitive area by introducing lenses that were hardly worthy of the sensor. The 16mm pancake's performance seemed like it was rushed to the market, with Sony putting some chrome-shiny bits round to make it look the part.

It has not been a totally disappointing year as come cameras stunned the wolrd with some great innovations.

The Canon 550D. It's got great video capabilities and the image quality is really just as good as anything you'd get from a 7D (although they are two totally different breeds of cameras). Despite the blip of the 60D, Canon has been pumping out the usual (add your own words here, Nikon fans) from its fun factory - good stuff, that is. They introduced the S95, which is probably the best pocketable compact camera out there right now, and the G12, which is probably the best non-pocketable compact camera out there right now.

another interesting innovation is the  Leica X1. t's a light camera, lighter than the GF1 and E-P1, but has an APS-C sensor with 24mm Elmarit lens, giving it plenty of performance clout despite its diminutive size. but don't expect to be shooting any fast moving objects with it.
However,  the Nikon D7000 is a better of a DSLR. Low noise performance; more "pro-like" in its features compared to the D90; good video mode; part metal body; higher continuous burst rate; 100% accurate viewfinder and generally more va-va-voom. I'd have this as a 2nd choice, coupled with the expensive, but better than good Nikkor 24mm f/1.4 G. The performance of the lens was superb on full-frame and, although a bit wasted on crop, it will function as a fast effective-fov 35mm - a useful single focal length to have.

THE IDEAL GIFT FOR THE HOLIDAY AND CHRISMAS

This is the time of the year when your mind will be moving to and fro thinking of what to buy as gift  and clouded by the good or not too good choices you made in the past. The holiday time is just by the corner and decision is now  and not just before.

Have you thought about a camera? Oh, he already has one. What type? Compact or DSLR? If it is compact then you can buy a DSLR or vise- versa. And if he has a DSLR , then may be you get him a lens to replace the old one. There are also many camera accessories such as flash, flash meter and bags  to choose from, if the person already has a camera and you are not buoyant enough to buy a digital camera.

The beauty of the DSLR is not only the interchangeable lenses that you can use to achieve different results but also the optical viewfinder which allows you to clearly and comfortably compose your shots. For someone that is not too experience with DSLR , Canon , EOS 7D and Nikon D3100 and Sony NEX-5NIKON D7000 are wonderful choices. For someone that is very creative, panasonic lumix GF!, Sony NEX-3 and Sony NEX-5 are the best choices to pick from.

And if you are going for compact, then Sony cyber-shot TX9, Canon IXUS 210,Olympus mju9000 and Panasonic Lumix FT2 are  trendy and are the bomb any day any time.

SOME LIKE THEM SMALL AND SOME LIKE THEM BIG AND SOME.................

No, no,no, no! It's not what you think! Everything about this page is all about digital cameras.

Size is always a concern for a number of things in life. Sometimes it's a bonus to get something bigger and when it comes to some other things, the smaller, the better. With the recent announcement of some Panasonic cameras , their skinny new appearance is setting a new standard of slim superseding a camera that was already very reasonably-sized. It's almost following in the footsteps of the slightly clown-like dimensions of some Sony  cameras. Thees Sony camera bodies are similar to compact camera dimensions but with APS-C sensor inside, the size becomes outrageously out of proportion to the lens that gets mounted on it.

The compact cameras come slim and small and they can easily be carried around. Some of the DSLR cameras come in very reasonable sizes and weight but the lenses are the issues and some come in big sizes, these equally will require huge lenses to be mounted. Some manufacturers have come with a new innovation they call The Micro Four-Thirds system which has provided something a bit different, heralding  the beginning of small cameras, big sensors which is admired by all.

The small size cameras include: Panasonic GF2Sony NEX-5 and-3
Medium size cameras:  Canon 550D or Nikon D3100

Big or small, the camera size is a relative to the users and what they want to get out of it. However, there is  saying that"the best camera is the one that you have with you".

NIKON D7000-Inspired performance in a size that keeps you shooting!

At the heart of the D7000 is a DX-format CMOS image sensor with 16.2 effective megapixels, optimally engineered to gather more quality light through sharp NIKKOR lenses. With 14-bit A/D conversion (12-bit selectable) operating within the sensor, the D7000 realizes stunning images that are richer in tone and detail than previously possible in DX format without sacrificing shooting speed or energy efficiency. Combine these with the agility of the DX format and its signature 1.5x focal length telephoto potential and you can begin to see where this kind of shooting power can take you.
